585 ENGLISH PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN PREPARING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR THE FUTURE

How ready are we to face the challenges of global English in elementary schools and integrate it into the curriculum? For private schools, English as one of the main subjects included in students’ report cards is no longer something unfamiliar. Especially at Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School, we have been prepared even before this information was officially introduced.

Yes, starting from the 2027/2028 school year, elementary school students across Indonesia will learn English as a compulsory subject. This step is taken to help children develop global communication skills from an early age and prepare them to compete in a more connected world.

The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, said that English will become a mandatory subject starting in the 2027/2028 academic year. This policy shows the government’s commitment to preparing students to become productive and globally competitive graduates.

By learning English from an early age, Indonesian students are expected to improve their communication skills and gain more confidence in facing the future. “Technology can help the learning process, but it cannot replace teachers,” he said.

The Ministry also hopes this policy will improve the quality of elementary education in Indonesia. Through English learning, students can understand different cultures, broaden their knowledge, and communicate better with people from around the world.

To make this policy successful, cooperation between the government, schools, and teachers is very important. With strong teamwork, English will not only become a school subject, but also a bridge for young Indonesians to reach a brighter and more competitive future.
