Fostering Character Through Collective Vegetarian Lunch Program
Every Monday and Tuesday, our school holds a meaningful program called “Eating Vegetarian Together.” This program provides students with nutritious and eco-friendly meals. More importantly, it gives them an opportunity to learn and practice positive values in their daily lives.
One special characteristic of the program is that students take turns serving one another. They help serving the food, including the soup and vegetables, to their classmates. This simple interaction teaches students to cooperate, care for others, and work together harmoniously. Besides, in this program, students will also practice discipline and self-control by lining up and waiting patiently for their turn to get served.
Before eating, students are guided to pray together and sing a song of gratitude, expressing thankfulness for the food they receive. They are reminded that many people are involved in bringing food to their table. They also learn to appreciate the food they have, knowing that not everyone has the same opportunity to enjoy a meal every day. This routine nurtures mindfulness and a deeper sense of appreciation.
Finally, the program helps build a stronger sense of togetherness in our school community. This program allows students to build friendships, develop awareness for the environment, strengthen social connections, and nurture many positive characters.
